Full Tilt Poker in trouble again
Games stop once again at Full Tilt Poker
Another scandal surrounds the online poker giant
It seems like 2011 is not a good year for online poker, as we’ve seen one scandal after another at the top of the industry. After the Black Friday events left the whole industry shaking a couple of months ago, Full Tilt Poker was involved in another scandal just today, and it seems like this one could be much worse for them. While the Black Friday events only affected their United States business, this one is already spread everywhere.
It all began this morning, when a series of announcements from the AGCC, the agency that regulates online gaming, and the one that Full Tilt Poker is administered by, stating that they are suspending Full Tilt Poker’s license. The AGCC, or Aldernay Gambling Control Commission, ordered Full Tilt to immediately suspend all their activities, crippling the multi-billion dollar earning site.
This decision comes as a direct result of the indictments and investigation launched by the United States government back in April, so we all know what is at the root of the problem. The US Attorney General’s Office prompted the AGCC to revoke Full Tilt’s license and shut down all of their activities – even the ones from overseas. So now, the problem isn’t localized in the United States any more, as it’s gone fully global.
The AGCC has also announced that they will set up a hearing where they will decide the exact fate of the site. The date of this hearing is yet to be released to the public.
So, for now, there are just a few things we know for sure. Full Tilt Poker is prohibited from taking part in several activities, which include the registration of new customers, the acceptance of deposits from the players that already have an account, and what’s worse – they are not allowed to permit players to withdraw their funds, either. And, as opposed to the restrictions that we have already seen, it is now forbidden to engage in any form of poker play on the site, which includes free play. You can take a look at the full AGCC press release here.
Full Tilt Poker has yet to release a statement, although, if you check their site, you will find this sign posted on the front page:
Although we all know this is no “Scheduled maintenance”, this is a predictable move from Full Tilt, who are desperately trying to keep their remaining loyal customers. Although things are not looking too bright right now, especially for people that kept their faith in the online poker site, there is still hope, as politicans struggle with passing bills that would allow online poker to be regulated.
That’s all the information we have for now. Apart from them, we only have questions. What will happen with Full Tilt? Why was only this site affected by such a decision? Will it spread to PokerStars or the UB network?
Check back soon for more information, as we will keep you posted as we learn them.
