The poker world was shook by another scandal

This time, actor Tobey Maguire was at the center of the events

Everybody who was involved in online poker or online gaming was shaken just a few short months ago, when the Black Friday events unfolded. For those of you who are still unaware of what went down, here’s the rundown: basically, the situation online poker and online gambling is in within the United States is very precarious, with just a thin line dividing what’s legal and what’s illegal. And, to the surorise of many, some of the largest online poker sites in the world were involved in less than legal activities. So, sites like Full Tilt Poker, Poker Stars and the Ultimate Bet poker network were raided by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other governamental agencies, their domain names were seized and there were even key people from the companies were arrested and facing serious accusations.

And even though these were some of the largest sites in the world, it still took quite some time for them to bounce back up from the shock – and they haven’t even fully bounced back yet! And remember, we are talking about some of the most powerful companies on the internet today.

One of the latest huge poker scandals errupted this week, when a number of the largest celebrities from the United States were apprehended in a large clandestine poker tournament. These celebrities are a bunch of actors, and the most well known name, the one in the deepest trouble as of yet is Spiderman superstar Tobey Maguire. Him, along with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio were all involved. It seems like Maguire won a large amount of money in poker winings, but not a lot of them were legit.

The whole scandals is several layers deep, and it is still unfolding, which means that we are about to see many more pieces of information surfacing and many more events unfolding. All we know for now is the fact that the sums that were speculated were astronomical, with rumours even talking about $100,000 buyins.

All in all, whether it’s online poker or old fashioned live poker games, it seems that this game is one that is bound to give birth to controversy and scandals this year. Check back soon, as we will keep you posted about the scandals as the events unfold.
